I saw a post on Blog Myself Thin, a gal just starting on her journey to losing weight. She posted a list of things that were in her family and who had what. I thought I would do the same, seeing it written out might have more impact on me.
Diabetes: Mother, Oldest brother
Cancer: Maternal Grandmother
Heart Problems: Mother (3 heart attacks, 4 stints), Father (1 stint, lots of blockage), Paternal
Grandfather and 2 Uncles (not sure of what they had, but all are gone now)
Kidney Problems: Mother (she just passed away from kidney failure)
Parkinson's: Maternal Grandmother
Schizophrenia: Paternal Grandmother
Obesity: Very common on my moms side of the family
Cushings Disease: Mother
Well thats a scary list! I guess seeing so much of myself in my mom and my oldest brother its opened my eyes to the list of problems I could soon be faced with if I dont start REALLY caring about myself. My mom struggled for so many years with tons of medical mysteries that I just dont want to EVER have to even think about them happening to me. I dont want my kids to lose me way before they should.

You've started yourself down the path to fitness and greater health and have done great so far. AS much of an eye opener this was for you, you've already taken the steps needed to lessen your chances of developing these serious health conditions.
How's your running going?? I love hearing your enthusiasm and excitement in your running. Great job Jen!!
Sorry to read the news about your Mom. I can't imagine what you are going through. My cousin that is in the hospital now has diabetes and had a kidney transplant 14 years ago. That diabetes is a nasty disease that is for sure.
On another note, great job on your running. So glad you go the new shoes. Those make a huge difference.
Hang in there. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you go along the journey without your Mom. Just know what peace she is in now and how awesome and healthy her body is now.
I can rattle off the things my family members have had, but I have never made into list form. I can see that as very valuable motivation.
My dad died of kidney failure as well.
When you write it out like that it really puts things into perspective. Im so sorry to hear about your mom. {HUGS} being sent your way!!-Krista
